Hi, I'm in grade 10 and I would like to know what courses should I take in grade 11 if I want to become a graphic designer.
Depending on what your high school is able to offer you should look at taking electives in Art, Drafting and Design. You also might look into whether or not you have the opportunity to attend a vocational technical school your junior and senior year. Many of them offer great programs in the area of Graphic Design.
I do not know if you are in a public, private, or vocational high school and what your state required classes are. But I think you have to take English, math, science, history, gym. That leaves one class or possiblyy two that you can take as an elective. The classes that you should take are digital graphics, computer programming, any art or design classes available, and also take whatever class they offer in design. It might be limited to what you have available, or if you can design your own class, internship, or out-of-school program.
You should also try taking a graphics or design class at one of the reputable on-line colleges to get a feel for what college design is all about.
UC Berkeley has a great on-line course that some of my students have participated in.
The website is:
You should (depending on your schools curriculum) be taking classed in art theory, digital media and drafting (as many levels as you can take to become familiar with the form and function of of space and perspective and also taking into consideration that you will (in the drafting classes) be working on industry standard software pkgs.
