Help with "The Most Dangerous Game"? I have to make a map of Ship Trap Island, but I'm having some trouble finding some places I have to draw. I don't know what is the crimson stained weeds and empty cartridge, please tell me in which part of the text I can find that, and please help me because I don't know if I'm doing the map right. If you know a website where I could look at the map I would appreciate it, but if not just tell me where are the crimson stained weeds and empty cartridge. Thanks!

Author Richard Connell does not provide a detailed description of the geography of Ship Trap Island. That means that you can be creative in making your map. There are a few specifics you should include on your map, though.

Make sure you have General Zaroff's chateau, the island's only building, which is described as being located on a tall bluff jutting out into the sea. Near the chateau is a cove, and beyond that is the Death Swamp, which is located in the southeastern part of the island. Zaroff states that the island has ample jungles and hills, but he does not specify where these are exactly. The coastline is described as being very rocky.

As for the cartridges and crimson stained weeds, their location is not described specifically. We do know that they are near where Rainsford wakes up after first landing on the island. He finds them shortly after waking up and walking along the shoreline. Therefore, you should place them somewhat near the shoreline, near a bend in the coast before reaching the chateau.

As for an "official" map of the island, none really exist, but you can see several examples by conducting a simple image search on Google. Just be aware that not all of them seem, to me, to be accurate according to the descriptions in the original text.

I think you're missing some of the big things first! You would definitely need to include the Malay Mancatcher, Death Swamp and the Burmese Tiger Pit! The "crimson stained weeds" would be grasses that are bloody due to the injury sustained during the chase, and the empty cartridge is the shell case of the bullet which was fired during the hunt. The grass and cartridge really don't have much to do with the traps themselves... Be aware that there are the three physical traps (Mancatcher, Swamp and Tiger Pit) and one additional mental trap in which Rainsford fakes his own death. To make a map of Shiptrap Island, you'd really need to focus on the three physical traps.

There is no real "accurate" map of Shiptrap Island. It's all up to the reader's imagination! But as a teacher who has taught this story several times, if I was to see your map without the three big traps mentioned above, I'd tell you to revise it and resubmit for sure!
