It sounds like your assignment is to write a compare-contrast essay on "Schindler's List" and "Hotel Rwanda." In order to get started, you need to do some basic brainstorming. To help you get started, you could answer the following questions in the list form:
- In what ways are the films most alike?
- In what ways are the films different?
- What major theme(s) or subject(s) does each movie strongly portray?
- What is(are) the message(s) behind that theme? Is this a common message between the two films or do they oppose one another?
Depending on your answers to the above questions, you should have an idea of a direction your essay could take. Despite the fact that each film covers completely different struggles/wars, the overriding message is definitely one of fighting for what you believe in and having hope despite overwhelming opression and injustice.
Your thesis is going to be a basic (and somewhat broad) statement on how these two movies compare. Your sub-thesis will either go into the differences between the overall message in each movie, or the details (in the form of categories) of how they are most alike. Your thesis will be based off the information you brainstorm, so be sure to include as many examples as possible, even when making your lists.
