I have to write my own short odyssey for English with me being Odysseus, and I have no clue what to write about. What are some "journeys" I could write about?
it doesnt have to be long, just a page and a half. So a brief and concise adventure would be in order.
This sounds like an interesting assignment, especially since it is so short. You will note that in Homer's Odyssey the hero had a very specific destination. He wanted to get back to his home and to his wife Penelope. Although he encountered many different obstacles, detours, and distractions, that destination and that motivation give the story a shape--a beginning, middle, and end. I suggest that for your odyssey you start by remembering something you wanted to obtain or some place you wanted to get to, then describe that objective and tell about the problems you encountered in attaining it and how you finally succeeded.
Life is such a hassle that it is full of mini-odysseys. Even talking on the telephone can be a mini-odyssey these days. You call up and get a recorded voice telling you to push one button and then another button. Maybe you only want an answer to a simple question, but you get a "menu" that doesn't contain any of the right answers. But if you persist (as Odysseus did) you can succeed, and it seems to me that your own odyssey should be a successful one in order to resemble the one by Homer. I think it should also contain a learning experience.
You could write as a modern-day Odysseus. That would be an interesting take. In the Odyssey, Odysseus' ultimate journey is to make it back home to Ithaca. Along the way, all his crewmen die and he faces a 6-headed monster, stormy seas, and goddesses. Odysseus is a unique character from all facades - he lives to outsmart people. Write about a cunning, intelligent man in a modern-day adventure. Good luck!
