I have found a small bottle of amyl nitrate in my Dad's things since he died, which I think he used with nito methane to make fuel for model aeroplanes. How do I dispose of it. It is many years old as my Dad died in 1999 and he stopped flying planes many years before that.

Proper disposal of amyl nitrate will be dependent on the federal, state, and local regulations where the substance is located. I would recommend you contact the distributor (which should be available on the container) and request an updated MSDS sheet which will contain data/information including proper disposal instructions. Since the amyl nitrate is so old, it's likely that the MSDS information may have been updated since it was initially distributed. Disposal of this substance has to be done by qualified personnel who are knowledgeable about all the regulations and follow all safety precautions including the use of proper protective equipment. If you are unable to contact the distributor, contact your local waste management agency for more instructions on proper disposal as they should be knowledgeable about the federal, state, and local regulations of this substance.
