-2x + y= -5...........(1)

y= 1/4 x + 2

==> - 1/4 x + y= 2..........(2)

To solve the system, we will subtract (2) from (1)

==> -7/4 x = -7

Now we will multiply by -4/7

==> x = -7*-4/7 = 4

==> x= 4

Now we will substitute into (1) to find y.

==> -2x + y = -5

==> -2(4) + y= -5

==> -8 + y= -5

==> y= 3

Then the solution to the system is the point (4,3).

-2x+y=-5

y=1/4 x+2

We can graph these two equations by rewriting in y intercept form:

y = .25x + 2

y = -2x - 5

Now, we graph by plotting points. Once you have the graph drawn as I've done above, you can see where they intersect. This point of intersection is the solution. Its at x = 4, y = 3
