Then, -77 = m*8+35 ( as the graph passes through the point ( 8 , -77)

         8m= -77-35 = -112

            m= -112/8

First place the values in the point in to the equation.

(X,Y) is (8,-77)

so y=mx+35 is -77=m8+35

then isolate the variable by subtacting 35 from both sides 

-77-35=8m+35-35

-112=8m+35-35

-112=8m

now divide both sides by 8

-14=m
