GLOBAL WARMING!!!!

what causes global warming?

what influence can it have in our life and society?

how can it affect us in future or what are the consequences?

what are the forcasts for the future climate and what will it be like?

how/when did it start and began to spread around?

how can it be stopped?

what are our responsibilities?

There can be several approaches to answering these questions.  Initially, there are those who believe global warming is a problem and others who believe it is a natural condition of existence.  In the camp of the former, individuals possess a certain level of power in solving the problem, and in the latter, individuals can do little, if anything, to offset the natural progression of things.  I think there is much to indicate that global warming is a challenge that has to be met because the earth's rise in temperature will have challenging consequences in terms of melting polar ice caps, causing oceans to overrun, and increasing difficulty in sustaining life on the planet.

Global warming comes from excess carbon dioxide being put into the atmosphere.  The consequences are potentially staggering (climate change all over the world) but are too difficult to predict accurately.

We can stop it either through producing less carbon dioxide or by technology that can remove it from the atmosphere.

It seems clear that we have to address this both individually (trying to use less energy in various small ways -- lots of people doing this add up) and as societies (we need government action to cut emissions in big ways).

Only international action, swift action, can now address this crisis.  Individual actions are not enough.  Climate change is already happening, and now our best hope is that we can avoid the worst effects of it.  Scientists say a 5+ degree change in surface temperature by 2050 is highly likely.  We're also talking about ice free summers in the Arctic and the loss of massive ice floes on Antarctica, and the disappearance of glaciers in the US.

This is a controversial issue. Some people say that global warming is caused by pollution, while others claim it is a natural process and not influenced by what we humans do. Everyone agrees that it is only going to get worse, but we don't really agree on whether or not the process can be reversed.
