The Committee of Elders was the governmental body for the community. It made all the decisions regarding assignments of jobs, matches of men and women to create family units, places newchildren in families, and all other planning that was necessary for continued functioning.
Like the Matching of Spouses and the Naming and Placement of newchildren, the Assignments were scrupulously thought through by the Committee of Elders.
The Committee of Elders, as a whole or in subgroups, established the rules and regulations that structured acceptable behavior in the community.
There was talk about changing the rule and giving the bicycles at an earlier age. A committee was studying the idea.
And, when the Committee of Elders was faced with a situation that required knowledge of something that had happened in the past or that needed understanding of influences beyond their capacity, they consulted The Receiver for guidance and advice.
