The poem "Journey of the Magi" by T. S. Eliot is based on a story in the Gospel of Matthew in which three wise men (magi) arrive from the east guided by a star bearing gifts for the infant Jesus. The poem is told from the point of view of a magus, now old, who remembers back to the journey and the birth of Jesus:
All this was a long time ago, I remember,
And I would do it again
He describes the literal details of a winter journey in realistic detail and then speculates on the significance of the birth of Jesus and what it might mean for or within his own religious tradition.
