I've had problems uploading a new avatar, too. It has been very frustrating, but I'm going to keep trying. I'm very computer savvy, but I cannot figure out why it isn't working. It is a JPEG.
I haven't had a problem with my icon, but I'm still having trouble with my answers' being erased when the dictionary pops up! Sometimes it happens two or three times in the same answer. I just give up.
Has anyone else had a problem changing their picture on their profile? I tried and tried a few weeks ago, and finally, Scott had to change it for me. I kept getting an error message, saying that the file needed to be jpeg, jpg, or gif, and I was actually trying to put in a jpeg.
I don't think we ever figured out what the bug was - I'm just curious if anyone else has had this problem.
Thanks so much for these suggestions, we're having some of the tech people look into the problems described above. Also, please keep the suggestions coming.
#4, we are planning a group like that which will be part of an overall attempt to make the Groups area more central to the site in general. I think that group will be a big hit! We'll need to be very careful to delete the "write my essay" type questions etc. but I think it would make a great group.
The same thing happens to me! I thought I was doing something wrong, but I'm relieved to hear that somebody else is having problems with the screen blanking out. I've noticed that it happens most often when I type really fast, so I thought I must be hitting the wrong keys by mistake. It's a mystery.
I get frustrated sometimes when I am typing away answering a question and the enotes pop-up (dictionary, term definer) comes up and blanks out the screen. At first I tried to back up and continue my answer, but the answer is always gone. Maybe this is my server, but after this happens once or twice, I am more likely to go do the dishes than to retype it all for a third of fourth time. Does this happen to others?
I agree with Reply #4, as well. I was looking for advice on how to write a poem for one young man just this evening and had to go out into the vast expanse of the internet to find tips for him to review. In fact, a writing tutoring section might not be a bad idea...add it to the history, business, law, and other sections new to enotes.
I think it would be great to add a section specifically for writing assistance. Some way to provide tips for using MLA format, writing a thesis, organizing an argument, etc.. We get some questions in the literature section, but a section that was specifically for writing - whether associated with a particular text or not - would probably be well received.
Thanks! that's exactly the kind of feedback we need to hear.
Before I say this, I just have to assure you all that I do understand why advertising is necessary - the Google ads probably bring revenue to eNotes, and I appreciate getting paid to be an editor, so I do understand!
The one thing, though, that bothers me is that sometimes ads for CliffsNotes and SparkNotes will come up on different pages, and it's frustrating to think that we might lose students to these "cheat sites."
Overall, I think eNotes is fabulous, and as I said above, I understand that allowing advertisers is probably necessary. I just wish we could be more picky! :)
