In writing on the theme of gender inequality, you would first want to define what gender inequality is. This would involve defining both the word "gender" and the word "inequality." Having derived a definition, you would want to make some point about gender inequality. That would become your thesis. Your thesis must be arguable or debatable. In other words, you would have to take a side in a debate about the topic. Does gender inequality damage lives, as some contend? Or is it exaggerated in a country like the United States? Does it serve a useful purpose (i.e., are women inherently inferior in some way?), or is it merely a way for people with power to maintain their power and privilege?

When you settle on a thesis, knowing that this is a hotly contested topic, you would need to find examples that illustrate your point. For example, if you wanted to show how gender inequality has damaged women's lives, you could find examples in both history and literature of women who have been hurt by lack of equality. You would also need facts and statistics about the impact of gender inequality, such as aggregated differences in pay, to make a fully convincing argument.

There are many different ways that you could go with this (or with a mix of the two).  You could talk about where gender inequality comes from.  You could try to explain whether it is religion that has caused us to treat men and women differently or if it comes from the days when physical strength was much more important for daily life than it is now.  Another thing that you could talk about would be the impact of gender inequality, how it affects individuals and societies.  Finally, you might talk about how it could be combated and reduced.
