The major responsibility of the Division of Advertising Practices in the Bureau of Consumer Protection is to protect consumers from unfair or deceptive advertising practices on the part of companies.
Consumers are susceptible to being tricked by deceptive advertising. It is very difficult for consumers to know enough or learn enough to truly understand if the claims made in advertisements have any basis in fact. Therefore it is necessary for the Division of Advertising Practices to regulate advertisements. The division monitors various forms of advertising to ensure that the advertising is not fraudulent or harmful to consumers in any other way.
