Ex. Christopher Columbus (1492): Discovered the New World; Believed he reached the East Indies   Memoric Phrase: Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492

1. Cabral (1500): Reached Brazil and claimed it for Portugal

2. Amerigo Vespucci (1501): Traveled the coast of South America; Claimed the land was not Asia but a "New" World

3. Ferdinand Magellan (1522): Credited with sailing around the world

4. Hernando Cortes (1521): Conquered the Aztec Empire in Mexico

5. Francisco Pizarro (1553): Conquered the Inca Empire in Peru

6. Ponce de Leon (1513): Landed on the coast of Florida and claimed it for Spain

CANT-OK- Coronado, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas

Some of my former students liked to make up raps, if they were musically inclined. Others liked mnemonic devices, but they were only good for lists. What I suggested above is like a mnemonic device. Hope that helps.
