In order for customers to appreciate the use of technology, it has to be beneficial to them. Something as simple as ordering dinner or reserving a table at a popular restaurant through the use of a web site or mobile app can improve customers experience. When things go awry and there is a data breach at a major retailer, hospital, or government agency by which millions of people are affected by the sharing of personal information, people are disenfranchised by the use of technology. When this results in identity theft, it can cost consumers time and money to rectify. Other ways in which the misuse of technology can affect consumers is in the items that they purchase. Faulty computers in cars can lead to accidents, increased gas use, and inaccurate service requirements. Robocalls (computer generated calls) that occur day in and day out represents another misuse of technology that is more of an annoyance than a danger.
