The 4 secretaries handling the reports handle 20%, 60%, 15% and 5% of the files. The probability that the reports are misfiled is 0.05, 0.1, 0.1 and 0.05 respectively.

For a report that is received, the probability that it is goes to the first secretary is 20% and the probability that the report is misfiled is 0.05. The product of the two is 0.2*0.05 = 0.01. Similarly for the other three secretaries this is 0.6*0.1 = 0.06, 0.15*0.1 = 0.015 and 0.05*0.05 = .0025

Adding the probabilities obtained gives: 0.01 + 0.06 + 0.015 + 0.0025 = 0.0875

There is a 8.75% probability that any report received is misfiled.
