Explain how us human being are not like Hamlet, and provide a quote from the play Hamlet to back up the argument. provide specific quote from the play
This is a rather hard question to answer, because I think that we humans all have the potential for being like Hamlet, not unlike him. Maybe ALL humans are not like Hamlet, but they could be like him, and certainly some are like him.
However, if this is part of an assignment you must complete, to show how humans are NOT like Hamlet, there are a few possibilities. Not all humans are as introspective as Hamlet. Not all humans are contemplating ending their lives. He does a lot of soul searching in the play, so you could use specific lines from his several soliloquys to prove this:
O that my too, too solid body would melt,
Thaw, and change itself into a dew!
Or that the Everlasting God has forbidden
Suicide! O God! O God!
Hamlet is pretty depressed when he utters these lines, so this is a pretty specific state of mind to be in and, hopefully, not all humans are this despondant.
To be, or not to be, that is the question!
This is another soliloquey in which he contemplates killing himself.
Hamlet is pretty angry with his mother throughout the play. He feels she has betrayed his father by marrying his uncle so soon after his father has died. His mother does not know that her current husband has poisoned her deceased husband, but Hamlet is pretty hard on her - rude and vicious, actually. In her room, when they are talking, he sees Polonius hiding behind the curtain. Thinking it is the king, he draws his sword, killing Polonius. When he sees it is not the king, though, he is not very sorry, and still yells at his mother:
Yes, lady, that’s what I said.
You wretched, rash, intruding fool, goodbye!
I mistook you for the King. Take your luck,
You learn that it’s dangerous to be too busy.
Leave wringing of your hands. Quiet! Sit down,
And let me wring your heart. Because so I will,
If it’s made of stuff that can be penetrated,
If damned habits have not hardened it so
That it’s hard and strong against common sense.
Those are some pretty mean words. Again, I think that we humans could all be capable of saying such things, but hopefully we are NOT like him in this regard.
