Explain how a person can determine if a set of data represents inverse variation and give an example using a table of values.

An illustration of the letter 'A' in a speech bubbles

y varies inversely with x, means `y=k/x`

We can rewrite the above as xy=k, where k is a constant. Thus given a table of values, if every time we multiply x by it corresponding y, we get the same constant, then we have an inverse variation.``

Example:

    x         y               xy

   1         60              60

   2         30              60

   3         20              60

   4         15              60
