Nessarose starts out as a dependent person. She has no arms and is unable to balance by herself. She needs her Nanny or Elphaba to support her. She is also devoutly religious and generaly quite sweet. At Colwen Grounds Nessarose is in a position of power. Her shoes have been enchanted so that she has the power to stand on her own. She is no longer dependent on others. For Nessarose, with the power of leadership comes corruption. She turns into a dictator who is very concerned with keeping control over her people by any means necessary. Because of this she is called The Wicked Witch of the East.
