Explain in detail about the origin of The Non-Aligned Movement. plzzzzz help me as soon as possible!!!!!!!
The Non-Aligned Movement was founded in 1955 as an international organization that rejected any 'alignment' with either of the 'superpowers', namely the United States and the Soviet Union. Although Gamal Abdul Nasser a former President of Egypt is named as the organizations' founder, the late Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru and the former Yugoslavian President Josip Tito are usually also included as the founders of the organization. In 1979 the Havana Declaration declared the purpose of the organization was to ensure national authority and autonomous sovereignty of the member nations in their struggle against outside 'colonial' aggression and or occupation. Essentially the Non-Aligned Movement was an attempt to address the Cold War 'chess game' that was being played out by the United States and the Soviet Union. It could be argued that this movement was on some level a protest against the powers that be during a very tense geo-political period in world history. The Non-Aligned Movement members saw themselves as 'pawns' of the Cold War chessboard. Upon that realization these nations decided that their organization would be recognized as an alliance against the superpowers. It is politically clear that the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 followed by the collaspe of the Soviet Union in 1991 has left the Non-Aligned Movement struggling to find its place upon the political world stage. However, just two weeks ago an article discussing the staying power and current influence the Non-Aligned Movement still has upon global politics is worth the read.
