The postwar boom caused a time of great prosperity in the 1950s, which then left turned to rebellion in the '60s.

During the 1950s, the boom caused immense prosperity.  People started to have cars and televisions and other consumer goods.  Teens were able to have spending money and free time to create a youth culture.

Along with this came a culture of conformity.  The culture of conformity later led to the rebellion of the 1960s.  The youth of the '50s came to think that the culture of the time was excessively materialistic and lacked soul.  This helped lead to the counterculture of the 1960s.
