Even though they were in a bad location, why did Timothy want them to stay there on The Cay?

Timothy and Phillip really had little chance but to stay put once they were lucky enough to reach the little strip of land in The Cay. They were lucky to have survived the sinking of their ship, and fortunate to have found a raft on which to cling. The cay was surrounded by dangerous reefs which would have made it difficult for them to navigate to safer waters and other islands even if they had a craft that was seaworthy enough for such a voyage. Although the dangerous waters also prevented larger ships from searching for them on the cay, Timothy knew that planes might find them from above and that the island would sustain them. There were coconuts and other fruit and plenty of fish and lobster to keep them alive until they were finally rescued.
