Are you supposed to write about who your role model is and why or are you supposed to write an essay that defines what a role model is? Once you have that figured out, you need to determine who your audience is. Who are you writing this essay to? Are you writing it to your teacher, your peers, or your little sister? Knowing exactly who your audience is will determine things like what kind of language you can use in the essay.

Once you have those kinds of details worked out, you can begin writing your essay. Begin with an "attention getter" of some kind. If your reader is bored in the first sentence, he/she isn't likely to finish your essay. Beginning with a question is an easy way to grab a reader's attention because it tends to force the reader to think about a possible answer. In the case of an essay about role models, an attention getting sentence could be the definition of a role model. This can also serve to guide your essay about why a particular person in your life is a role model to you and how they fit that particular definition. One final bit of advice is that you include plenty of examples in your essay. If you say that your dad is your role model because he is selfless, you need to prove that to your readers by giving plenty of examples.

Choose a person who has made a difference in your life, or a person you look up to, and explain why this person is your role model.

A role model is a person you admire and would like to emulate.  Usually you want to be like this person because you like the way the person lives his or her life.  A role model does not have to be a famous person or a superhero.  It could be a relative or friend who has accomplished things you wish to accomplish.  Your role model might be your grandfather, your neighbor, your teacher, or someone else you know.

In an essay on the role model, you should explain what this person has done to make you admire him or her.  Explain how this person is good at something, or has something, that you want.  For example, the person might have a good work ethic or a good job.  Describe how the person got what he or she has, and how you can do the same to get it too.
