In this story, the children create an imaginary Egypt, complete with an oracle. Chapter 17 is where the Oracle speaks. The children write a message on a piece of paper and place it on the beak of Thoth the Owl. Thoth is an Egyptian god. Thoth speaks by giving an oracle through the messages written on the back of the paper. At first, they think it was one of them but everyone denies it. Then the children realize the professor has found out about the game, and they disband it.
