Taurine is an ingredient in some energy drinks. It is actually an acid found in animal tissues, so we would eat small amounts of it anyway. Although we do ingest taurine, it is unclear what it actually does. As for toxicity, there is no conclusive evidence yet, but we also don't know what happens in large amounts.
