Just like physical activity will influence the heart rate of a person, the emotional state of a person will also influence their heart rate as well.  Stress or nervousness will increase a person's resting heart rate.  In a similar way, music will affect the emotional state of a person.  Slow and soothing classical music will slow down the heart rate.  Likewise, driving rock and roll and hip hop music will increase the heart rate.  The amount the heart rate can vary greatly depends on the person.  I have read before where the affect can be as great as 20% in some people.  That is why many people listen to very upbeat, driving music during exercise or workouts.
