Does anybody know anything about "Harrison Bergeron"?I sincerely need help writing a 7-page short story :(
I won't claim to be an expert, but I do really like the short story. It is one that examines some of the assumptions we make about people, in particular about equality and what it really means. I don't enjoy everything Vonnegut has written, but this one is great.
The summary pasted below has a nice description of the story, so I won't bother with that, but one of my favorite parts of the story is the description of the devices used to help everyone be equal and the quick and (depending on your perspective) painful resolution to the problem of inequality represented by Harrison and the ballerina in their embrace.
Perhaps the most telling part is the description of George and Hazel and the fact that George will defend the system even as it breaks him down physically and mentally.
