I saw no evidence throughout the book that Cherry had even an inkling of physical interest in Ponyboy.  The closest argument you could make is when she said Pony looks like Soda.  Still, Cherry would be much more apt to go out with Soda, who is the mark of all the girls' attraction and is the same age as Cherry.  As the previous poster mentioned, Cherry likes bad boys.  Pony is a far away from a bad boy as one can get.  She liked Ponyboy in a little brother type of way.  She was concerned about him and probably felt a little guilty that he got caught up in all the violence.  That's the reason she decided to be a spy for the Greasers.  The fact that they both like sunsets is cute, but isn't enough to draw two otherwise very different teens into a relationship.

I hope Pony and Cherry don't go out. Pony has shown growth though the novel. Cherry really hasn't. She is in a relationship with one "bad" boy who's accepted by societal standards. She gravitates toward the "bad" boys who aren't accepted by society. This does not speak well for her maturity.

It is unlikely that Ponyboy and Cherry will ever go out. Although they formed a quick friendship during their night at the movies, there are a number of things that will probably cancel out a romantic relationship, specifically, the difference in age between the two of them. Ponyboy is only 14-years-old. Cherry is about 16 or 17. Although he is very mature for his age. It is unlikely that Cherry would date a guy who is two years her junior.

Although Cherry isn't as narrow-minded as her boyfriend and his friends, she is reluctant to allow a friendship with a Greaser ruin her relationship. In chapter 3, Bob and  his buddies return to take Cherry and Marcia home. Before leaving, Cherry and Ponyboy have this conversation:

"...if I see you in the hall at school or someplace and don't say hi well, it's not personal or anything, but..."

"I know," I said

"We couldn't let our parents see us with you all. You're a nice boy and everything..."

"It's okay, we aren't in the same class. Just don't forget that some of us watch the sunset too."

If Cherry isn't even willing to have an open friendship with Ponyboy, it isn't likely that the two would date.

It is possible that Dallas had some feelings for Cherry. Her behavior towards him at the drive-in probably attracted him to her. Even Two-Bit admired how feisty she was.

Cherry said after Bob and Randy caught up with them:

“I hope I don’t have to see Dally Winston again, because, I’ll fall in love with him.”

Cherry is not a girl to love more then one guy at once, I think she was in love with Dally awhile after the movie scene. But, she was “with” Bob, and, in love with him… How could she love Dally, Bob AND Pony, even if the first two are dead? Also, the passage in the book where Pony and Cherry say their “Goodbyes”:

"...if I see you in the hall at school or someplace and don't say hi well, it's not personal or anything, but..."

"I know," I said

"We couldn't let our parents see us with you all. You're a nice boy and everything..."

"It's okay, we aren't in the same class. Just don't forget that some of us watch the sunset too."

I think now-a-days, if these characters were real and alive, they may be together, but Hinton was smart to leave that open ended but not at the same time…..
