Do you see a likeness in the novel’s examples to historical examples?

There's very little in this novel that cannot be compared to historical events. Bosnia was indeed engulfed in civil war in 1996. The character, Hanna Heath, had she been a real person, would most certainly have been carefully watched by both U.N. officials and the local army.

The history of Judaism in Sarajevo is a long one and while Brooks fictionalizes characters and stories, her settings, conflicts, and dates are historically accurate.
