I would think that this has to be mostly in the eye of the beholder. After all, it’s sort of hard to objectively say what is and is not realistic. I don’t think I’ve ever noticed any real difference, but that may simply be because my personal prejudices include a belief that men and women are not truly that different.
I have seen plenty of men being unrealistic about things like how good they are/can be at sports. I have seen many women being unrealistic about their looks. I have seen both sexes being very unrealistic about the virtues of their children. Of course, all of this is simply from my perspective.
So, I couldn’t possibly say one way or the other. I don’t perceive a difference but I’m not sure if that is because there is none or because I simply don’t see it.
