According to Carl Rogers, people need to meet certain conditions to be considered as showing psychological growth.

1. Actualizing tendency looks at the fact that Rogers believed that all mankind strive to live up to their best potential and make the most of life.

2. Organismic valuing is when a person puts a certain and specific value on the things which insure their actualizing tendencies.

3. Positive regard is the process of being able to nurture and show love and affection.

4. Positive self-regard is where a person is able to possess good self-esteem, understand and accept their worth, and maintain a positive self-image.

Understanding and embracing of these ideals insures that a person is then able to become a fully functioning person who has met the conditions necessary for psychological growth.
