I assume that you are talking about some time in the past given that industry (in the sense of manufacturing) is not growing rapidly in the United States today.
At the time that America was starting to industrialize, one could predict that American society was going to change in important ways. Perhaps most importantly, we could predict that the society would become a great deal more stratified in economic terms. Instead of having a society in which most people were on relatively the same economic level, we would foresee that we would have a society in which some people (those who owned the companies, for example) would get to be much richer than the mass of people who work in the factories.
