Did Janie go back to Eatonville to die after her rabid husband bit her? I have read it over and over and can't find anything for a clue. To me that is an important factor.

There is no evidence to support the idea that Janie returns to Eatonville and dies after Tea Cake's death. In fact, her return to Eatonville is actually a new beginning of life for Janie, as it allows her to show the strength and knowledge she has discovered along her journey. Janie has grown, struggled, loved, and, perhaps most importantly, found her voice. Now that she has been to the "horizon and back," she is able to return to Eatonville and begin her new life. Given all we learn about Janie throughout the story, we should feel confident that she does not die, (in the literal or metaphorical sense) but that she now possesses enough self-knowledge to truly live.
