An illustration of the letter 'A' in a speech bubbles

Harper Lee did, in fact, study at Oxford University, but only for one summer. She spent one year at Huntington College, then went to the University of Alabama. She attended Oxford as part of a summer foreign exchange program in 1948. After this summer, in which she was exposed to a number of British literary scholars, she returned to Alabama. Lee had initially planned to be a lawyer, but she spent one more year at the University of Alabama before opting to leave in 1950, just one semester away from a law degree.
