Amazingly, according to one source, only eight children died as a result of the September 11, 2001 attacks on New York City and Washington, D.C. All eight of them died on the airline flights taken by the hijackers. Five children died on American Flight 77, ranging in ages from three to 11; three children were aboard United Flight 175, ages two, three and four. The youngest victim was two year-old Christine Lee (Flight 175). Incredibly, the youngest person to die in the Trade Center buildings was 17. In all, 2,996 people died (including the hijackers) as a result of the terrorist attacks--far fewer than the original estimate of more than 6000.
