A device has a 100g wooden shuttle that is pulled horizontally along a square frictionless wooden rail by an elastic band. The shuttle is released when the elastic band has 6.4N tension at a 45 degree angle.What is the magnitude of the initial acceleration of the shuttle?

Here we can use the Newtons second law of motion. 

When the shuttle is release it will accelerate horizontally. For this acceleration force is given by the horizontal component  of the tension of elastic band.

`rarr F = ma`

`6.4cos45 = (100/1000)xxa`

         ` a = 6.4xx(1/sqrt2)xx10`

         ` a = 45.25m/s^2`

So the initial acceleration of the shuttle is `45.25m/s^2`
