The trial goes very quickly. Jaggers tries, at first, to get the trial postponed in the hopes that the very sick Magwitch will die before a guilty verdict can be passed. However, that motion is denied. The court can see how sick Magwitch is; therefore, it decides he must go to trial right away. Because of his infirm state, Magwitch is allowed to be seated during the trial, and Pip is allowed to hold his hand from the other side of the dock
