In a mechanistically structured organization, workers are expected to be cogs in a machine. They are expected to follow detailed procedures to the letter. There is no room for creativity in this sort of an organization. This sort of strict routinization can also lead to extremely low morale in an organization. Employees can feel as if they are not treated like people. They may have a hard time feeling good about their jobs and themselves as a result.
Thus, while such organizations can be very efficient, they can also have very negative cultures as employees come to feel like robots who are not valued for anything but their production and adherence to procedure.
