There are several ways to approach this.  The most needed element is the place.  Obviously, you will be selecting this.  Once you have finalized a location, I think that you will need to identify how that particular place can identify elements that are similar to a place in The Great Gatsby.  You will have to find out how the place you have selected models a setting from the novel.  I think you might have to go back to the text to identify particular details of specific places in the novel and if any of those items resonate with the selection of the place you have chosen.  I think the element here that is critical is that you describe the details as well as the happenings at this particular place.  In doing this, you will be giving voice to the setting and deciphering how your chosen location also mirrors those items.  One of the greatest elements of the novel is that the stories and the characters featured are indeed both sad, but also larger than life.  They are vibrant with color and the walls of the rooms that held them can speak volumes about what they did and who they were.  You will have to try to see if your particular choice of location captures the same essence of grandiosity, as well.
