The little piece of "rock and roll heaven" was "The Dugout," which was actually in the basement of the Owl's Nest restaurant which was actually across the river from the high school.  Apparently it was not really all that fancy, it had booths with backs alon the walls and there were actually columns scattered throughout that were holding up the floor of the restaurant.  It also had a very small coal burning furnace in one corner to help keep it warm.

What really made it a piece of heaven was Ed Johnson and his amazing record collection, added to the fact that he loved to play his records there.  So the kids would go there to have dances most Saturday nights and the atmposphere was fantastic.
