Since you have posted this under economics, I will describe economic beliefs and not political ones.
The major economic ideology present in the United States today is free market capitalism. This is an ideology that holds that the government should stay out of markets as much as possible. It holds that the right to have and to use private property is very important and must be protected. This ideology is not complete. People do believe that government should intervene in the markets to do things like preventing the abuse of workers. However, there is a strong consensus in favor of the basic ideas of free market capitalism.
