My feelings would change depending on the circumstances surrounding the help I am giving. Helping someone to move furniture from one house to another raises gratitude that it's not me doing the moving (!!) as well as gratitude that I have a home and that I'm physically healthy and able to help my friend with this thankless job.

Helping someone find a destination when they are lost makes me feel useful and it is fulfilling to be able to help another along their way.

Helping someone get through a hard time in their life can be humbling, as well as calling forth empathy and sympathy.

Empathy is a strong emotion if the giver has actually experienced what the less fortunate do. For instance, if a family themselves have suffered the devastation and loss that accompanies tornadoes, the empathize with tornado victims.

Sympathy for the struggle of others is certainly what motivates many to be altruistic.

Gratitude that one has the means to help others often enters into the acts of kindness towards others.

I always feel appreciative of what I have or enjoy. If I am helping a colleague, I appreciated those that helped me be the teacher I am so I can help others. I appreciate my education which makes me a strong enough teacher to help others. If I help with financial assistance, I appreciate that I have enough resources to meet my needs and enough extra to help others.

I feel compassion when I help others. I have sympathy for those who are less fortunate. I grew up less fortunate so I can relate. I will always remember those who helped me.

I also feel thankful while helping others. I am thankful that I can help those who need help.

Lastly, I feel blessed, as mentioned above, when I help others. I am blessed in so many ways. I owe it all to my faith in a supernatural God. I believe we are blessed so that we can help others.

Grateful: when you help others it makes you see what you have and makes you more thankful for it

Happy: there is so much joy in giving and in watching the results of giving

Humbled: the world is such a big place with so many needs that my little acts of kindness and frankly my whole life seems so small

I feel a little more conflicted about helping others.  I hope that I am helping them for their own sake.  However, I worry that I am truly helping others because I hope to get some benefit.  I worry that I am helping them so they will think I am nice or so other people observing will think I am nice.  So I'll contribute one word here and that is "conflicted."

The three words I would choose are emotional, blessed, and joyful.  I always feel happy when I help someone else, and at the same time I am reminded about all the blessings I have.  It makes me tend to forget about my problems, by helping someone through theirs.
