According to Homer's description, the weather was not kind enough to grant them snow, but it was bitterly cold that Christmas.  Their tree was actually far too tall for the house but his mother was not willing to trim it so it was wedged into the house.  Of course Dad lopped two feet off the top so it looked rather awkward after that.

The animals all caused more problems with the decorations and then one of them set up shop in the inside of the tree.

That Christmas was also when Homer got, as a present from his mother, an autographed photo of Wernher von Braun which was absolutely a thrill for Homer.
