Colonialism brought demographic changes because there were people from other countries coming in and subjugating the natives. The other significant change is that many natives were sold into slavery by other natives or by the newcomers.

Please see my response to your other question. It would help if you were allowed to focus on just one specific place in Africa, such as Cairo or Alexandria, but I suspect that this may not be the case. In the meantime, I did some searching around on Google Books, looking for "demographics in Africa 600-1450." Very little turned up. However, when I searched for "population in African 600-1450," I had a bit more luck. If you are doing research on this topic on the net, you may want to try searching for both phrases.  Here's one book that looks as if it may be helpful to you.
