In detail what 2 age groups does Cheerios target markets? What’s the specific benefits Cheerios market to each?
A quick visit to the Cheerios website reveals that there are 12 different varieties of the cereal, and, in fact, doesn't just market to two age groups. The slogan on the website is, "Cheerios for everyone." If we divide "everyone" into two age groups, an obvious split is "young" and "old" without operationalizing those terms. Young people like products that are sweet, and accordingly several of the 12 flavors are" "Frosted" (read: coated with sugar), Chocolate, Fruity, Apple Cinnamon, etc. For old customers who want to satisfy a sweet tooth without guilt, there's Yogurt Burst flavor. We all know that yogurt is healthy, right? Firmly in the "old" customer market segment are Multi Grain (anything with this label is aimed at old people who want to be healthy, and/or force their children or spouses to be) and Cheerios. Remember Cheerios are made with oats, which has soluble fiber. In case you forgot that, there are 41 (yes!) articles on the site which discuss the cholesterol and heart benefits of soluble fiber. So- two age demographic markets, young and old, and two types of Cheerios, sweet and healthy.
