I am not sure if you are introducing your story in Spanish or in English, but it would be so fantastic if your students could read the story in Spanish, maybe tape themselves reading passages, having them memorize some quotes and enacting them. The myriad of things that you can do!

I love Garcia Marquez too! do you do Hispanic literature with your students?   I havent actually found any teacher who had done anything on Isabel Allende.

I read the book in English and I find that the stories remind me of true life stories I read about in Reader's Digest.  The stories are extremely emotional and told in a great narrative voice. Though some are based on actual events, the stories themselves are wonderful gripping tales.
