My first thought was the moment when Piggy has to leave Ralph because he got "caught short." The American spelling of this malady is diarrhea; however, the British spelling is diarrhoea. That's the only thing I can think of, and it seems a bit of a stretch, but it may help.
This one has me stumped as well. At first, Piggy and Ralph converse until Ralph stops smiling and points to the conch. But, of course, this word does not have nine letters. Then the boys' conversation is interrupted by the appearance of the child named Johnny, neither of which words have 9 letters. Other children come, but still there is no 9 lettered word. Perhaps children is the answer and the clue should have been for 8 letters instead?
are you doign the same crossword puzzle as i am?
another clue: used to establish the existence of ghosts
what's the answer for that? 4 letter word.
