Beowulf frequently uses kennings to give the tale color. "Kennings" are compound words that represent different types of things or people, like "whale-road" to describe a sea passage.)
Create some modern day kennings!
"picture-box" (digital camera)
"garment-spinner" (clothes dryer)
These are very hard because rather than thinking of two nouns (as in "whale-road"), my mind is automatically coming up with nouns and verbs (which I'm trying to change into nouns!)! :)
A heroic epic author I am not!!! :)
Fun topic, Jamie!
A kenning is two words joined together with a hyphen (-) eg. Loud-Laughter. It can also be a riddle which can trick you by pictures in the background. You have to think really carefully about the riddles because they are tricky. Hope I helped you a little!
