I think that the more realistic way to approach this is to either examine your own experience flying or obtain some background information on someone else's first experiences aboard an aircraft might be a good start. I think that examining the first set of experiences through sensory imagery would constitute an excellent opening. For example, what were the first smells or sights on the plane? How did one's sense of hearing become impacted as the plane taxied onto the runway? In setting up this particular opening, you might have a very good start in your short story. In the end, this is going to have to be yours because of the demand of "memorable" and "interesting." With this in mind, I think that setting up your work as your own might be a good step towards fulfilling this component.
