Really, to write a poem is an intensely personal act that only you can do. The way you approach poetry and writing a poem on this topic is going to be incredibly different from the way that anyone else would. So, instead of doing your work for you, I will give you some pointers to start your poem.

You have been given a definite title and a topic to base the poem around. The first place to start is what do you think about this topic? What emotional reactions does this "legend" create in you? One aspect about poetry is that good poetry manages to convey the emotion felt by the poet about a given topic. Therefore, establishing this first is key to working out how to start your poem. Does it make you sad or happy, for example? Now, what words can you use to re-tell this legend to evoke that mood? What adjectives can you add to a simple description to make your opinion clear?

Using similes and imagery is easy to do. Consider what you can compare the legend to. Consider too how you can use the five senses to get the reader to see, smell, taste, touch and hear what you are trying to describe.

Above all, be creative! Good luck.
